Department of the Taoiseach
I hope your visit to the Department of the Taoiseach website will help you to learn more about the Department and about the role of the Taoiseach as Head of Government. You are most welcome.
At a time when Ireland is experiencing a period of exceptional vigour, economically and culturally, I am especially pleased to have the opportunity of welcoming visitors from other countries and cultures. Whether your visit is prompted by a desire for closer links to a country with which you share strong bonds of kinship or by a journey of exploration on the internet, I am pleased that today's technology has made your visit possible.
Ireland has a worldwide reputation for the warmth of its hospitality and I hope that some day you will be able to experience it in person - if you have already been in Ireland you will know what I mean!
In Ireland we particularly appreciate the friendship and support which have been extended to us, not only by the numerous Irish communities throughout the world, but also by the international community, whose goodwill we value highly. That support, practical and moral, has been a source of great encouragement in the talks process which resulted in the Multi Party Agreement and which was overwhelmingly endorsed by the people of Ireland on 22 May last. We look forward to a continuation of that support as we move ahead with the task of implementing this new, agreed, political settlement which is designed to bring about a lasting peace on this island, North and South.
